THE COMPLETE BRAND GUIDE · CURRENT DIRECTION

The art of
choosing well.

LA MAISONNE is an independent editorial lifestyle and shopping discovery publication. Beautifully useful. Thoughtfully found.

A considered meeting of French sophistication, British heritage, traditional homemaking and practical innovation. Premium in presentation, accessible in spirit. Affordability deserves the same editorial care as heritage craftsmanship.

This guide records the current direction and supersedes the earlier typography experiments. The approved display face is upright Libre Baskerville Medium. Jost handles body and interface text; Cormorant Garamond remains for feature titles. Pinyon Script is reserved for occasional accent notes and signatures.

01 · THE SIGNATURE

A doorway into the brand.

The three-arch M is custom vector geometry. The remaining masthead lettering is outlined Cormorant Garamond Medium. Do not retype the logo, substitute a font M, distort its proportions, or add decorative effects.

Espresso LA MAISONNE wordmark

Primary wordmark

Espresso on warm ivory. Keep a clear margin around it; use the full wordmark at 150 pixels wide or larger.

Ivory wordmark on oxblood

Reversed wordmark

Warm ivory on a dark, quiet ground. Preserve contrast and keep clear of busy photography.

Ivory three-arch M on oxblood

Standalone mark

Use for the favicon, a social avatar or a small brand signature. The architectural arches remain vertical.

Oxblood three-arch M on ivory

Light-ground variation

Oxblood on warm ivory, or the transparent mark when a clean background is already available.

The doorway is the signature curve. Use it sparingly—one meaningful occurrence in a view is enough.

02 · COLOUR

Warm foundations. A distinctive accent.

Use oxblood for selected headline phrases, active navigation, the primary action and logo interaction. Avoid large coloured backgrounds, bright gradients, glass effects and competing accents. Sage is reserved for verified sustainability evidence, not an environmental suggestion.

03 · TYPOGRAPHY

One clear hierarchy.

DISPLAY · LIBRE BASKERVILLE · 500

A life,

Espresso ink. Upright and comfortably weighted. Use for display headlines, cover lines, section titles and numerals.

BODY & INTERFACE · JOST

Beautifully useful.

Geometric sans-serif for body copy, navigation, department labels, captions and product information. Use tracked capitals for short labels, not paragraphs.

FEATURE · CORMORANT GARAMOND

Objects with a purpose.

Use for article-card titles, product titles and editorial standfirsts. Medium / semibold for hierarchy, with comfortable line spacing.

OPTIONAL BRAND NOTES · PINYON SCRIPT

A note from the editors.

Regular 400, oxblood. Use at least 38 px on the website, with generous line spacing; aim for 48 px or larger for standalone notes. Check exported graphics at their final display size. Reserve for a short editorial note, an editor’s sign-off or an occasional campaign accent. Use sparingly, not as the main headline, navigation, product data or long reading text. This replaces Dancing Script in the optional role.

LIBRE BASKERVILLE · DISPLAY SPECIMEN

A life,well considered.

Beautifully useful. Thoughtfully found.

Interface & reading text

Jost is the interface and body family. Use sentence case for body text. Department labels and navigation use tracked capitals, at least 11px where labels are intended to be read. Keep body measure around 62–70 characters. Use no more than three text sizes on one card.

The locally hosted fonts are open-source under the SIL Open Font License. License files accompany the font assets. The logo’s letterforms are outlined and do not depend on font installation.

04 · ART DIRECTION

Editorial rhythm. Room to breathe.

AI-generated editorial study of a warm traditional sitting room

AI-generated editorial visual study. Not documentary photography or a product-testing image.

Composition

Use a magazine hierarchy: masthead, department, feature headline, supporting copy, product information, edition number and a subtle footer. Pair one confident focal point with thoughtful whitespace. Masonry cards vary in image height, while labels and text alignment stay consistent.

Photography

Natural light, believable proportions, architecture, rich tactile materials and restrained colour. Traditional meets contemporary. People should appear naturally and modestly styled. Avoid cluttered collages and invented product-testing imagery.

Spacing & shape

16px24px32px48px64px96px128px

Keep controls and panels square or nearly square. Reserve the arch for the doorway device rather than rounding every component. Use hairline stone dividers and no decorative shadows. The system is almost iconless: words do most of the work. ↗ identifies outbound links.

05 · INTERACTION STATES

Quiet, visible feedback.

Logo hover & focus

Espresso at rest. Oxblood on hover and visible keyboard focus. The logo geometry stays unchanged.

Selected tabs

The selected label and underline turn oxblood. The previous tab returns to neutral. This is a visual component demo.

Read the journal

Primary actions use oxblood with ivory text. Secondary actions use a thin border or underline. Focus remains visible. Honour reduced-motion preferences. Missing functionality stays honestly disabled rather than appearing successful.

READING PREFERENCES · WEBSITE ONLY

Two ways to read.

The website’s Dark mode button switches to an oxblood background with ivory text and contrasting gold selected states. The reader’s choice is saved in their browser. Typeface roles remain unchanged; Pins and brand exports keep the light palette.

06 · STRATEGY & VOICE

Thoughtful words. Practical purpose.

LA MAISONNE helps readers choose well, purchase thoughtfully and create a more considered everyday life. It is a publication, not a generic product-finds account. Luxury editorial quality should never imply that only expensive things belong.

Our values

Christian stewardship · Intentional living · Verified sustainability · Traditional homemaking · Timeless femininity · Classic masculinity · Entrepreneurship · Affordability · Useful innovation · Editorial integrity.

The underlying philosophy is Christian, but not every story needs explicit religious language. Content welcomes women and men and covers home, family, purposeful work, style, craftsmanship and practical technology.

Write like this

Specific, warm, intelligent and clear. State what something does and why it matters. Address readers as adults who can choose for themselves.

“Five kitchen tools worth the drawer space.”
“Visit retailer ↗”

Avoid

Hype, urgency, countdowns, excessive exclamation marks, “must-have”, “obsessed”, invented testing, invented reviews, and vague green claims without evidence.

Never encourage unnecessary consumption simply to increase commission.

07 · EDITORIAL INTEGRITY

How we earn trust.

  1. Recommend products for a clear reason — every card states it.
  2. Prioritise genuine usefulness over unnecessary consumption.
  3. Make affordability feel sophisticated — The Under $25 Edit gets the same typography as The Heritage Edit.
  4. Distinguish verified sustainability claims from marketing language.
  5. Never invent product reviews or personal testing experiences.
  6. Clearly distinguish affiliate recommendations from independent editorial content.
  7. Celebrate traditional craftsmanship alongside useful modern technology.

Every recommendation needs a reason. If the product has not been tested, do not imply it has. Our current shop is an illustrative inspiration edit, not a set of verified product reviews.

08 · CLASSIFICATION

One product. One earned label.

A product carries one label, only when the written criterion is satisfied. A neutral “Classification awaiting evidence” state is required when it is not. Criteria below are drawn from the same source as the website methodology.

LabelCriterion
09 · EVIDENCE & DISCLOSURE

Say what we know.

Verified

Requires the precise claim, claim type, supporting evidence, source and date checked. Only this state earns the Verified badge and sage styling. A real claim is not being made by this guide.

Brand claim · not verified

Neutral styling. Attribute the marketing claim to the brand and do not present it as independently established.

No sustainability claim

Neutral styling. The absence of a claim is not a negative verdict; it simply avoids suggesting evidence we do not have.

Covered claims: recycled and organic materials, refillable packaging, repairability, durability, ethical sourcing, certifications, manufacturing transparency and waste reduction.

Missing data

Use neutral wording: “Price awaiting verification” or “Dimensions not published by the retailer”. No guessed values, fake discounts, invented stock warnings or fabricated star ratings.

Affiliate disclosure

Place a clear disclosure before the first affiliate link on every page and on every Pin leading to one. Mark links ↗ and use rel="sponsored noopener".

Scripture

Check quotations against the cited translation and attribute them in the form Proverbs 31:27 (KJV). Never invent a verse or imply a translation was checked when it was not.

10 · PINTEREST & PUBLISHING

A discovery leads somewhere useful.

Profile: @shoplamaisonne ↗. The site footer links directly to the profile.

Use one clear editorial idea per Pin. Give it a legible headline, relevant department and subtle brand signature. Check that the imagery and copy describe the actual linked content. New article-led Pins should link to their corresponding article, not an unrelated homepage. Existing Pins have not been inventoried or remapped by this site.

Where a Pin promotes an affiliate recommendation, disclose that relationship on both the Pin and destination page. Verify product information and sustainability claims before publication.

AI imagery must be identified as illustrative when it could be mistaken for a real property, tested product or documented experience. Do not invent prices, reviews or results for a stronger Pin.
